چکیده

The subword complexity of a finite word w of length N is a function which associates to each n ≤ N the number of all distinct subwords of w having the length n. We define the maximal complexity C(w) as the maximum of the subword complexity for n ∈ {1, 2, . . . , N}, and the global maximal complexity K(N) as the maximum of C(w) for all words w of a fixed length N over a finite alphabet. By R(N) we will denote the set of the values i for which there exits a word of length N having K(N) subwords of length i. M(N) represents the number of words of length N whose maximal complexity is equal to the global maximal complexity. The values of K(N) and R(N) are obtained; methods to compute M(N) using the de Bruijn graphs and trees are given. An open problem is to find a formula for M(N).

Rich, Sturmian, and trapezoidal words

In this paper we explore various interconnections between rich words, Sturmian words, and trapezoidal words. Rich words, first introduced by the second and third authors together with J. Justin and S. Widmer, constitute a new class of finite and infinite words characterized by having the maximal number of palindromic factors. Every finite Sturmian word is rich, but not conversely. Trapezoidal w...

Three complexity functions

For an extensive range of infinite words, and the associated symbolic dynamical systems, we compute, together with the usual language complexity function counting the finite words, the minimal and maximal complexity functions we get by replacing finite words by finite patterns, or words with holes. The Maximal Subword Complexity of Quasiperiodic Infinite Words

We provide an exact estimate on the maximal subword complexity for quasiperiodic infinite words. To this end we give a representation of the set of finite and of infinite words having a certain quasiperiod q via a finite language derived from q. It is shown that this language is a suffix code having a bounded delay of decipherability. Our estimate of the subword complexity uses this property, e...

Automata Construction for PSL

The language PSL [1] is a temporal logic standardized by the Accellera standards organization and currently undergoing the process of becoming an IEEE standard. The core of PSL, denoted here LTL WR, is an extension of the linear temporal logic LTL. The extension takes two orthogonal directions. In one direction the logic is interpreted over finite, possibly truncated, as well as infinite words....

Generalized trapezoidal words

The factor complexity function C w (n) of a finite or infinite word w counts the number of distinct factors of w of length n for each n ≥ 0. A finite word w of length |w| is said to be trapezoidal if the graph of its factor complexity C w (n) as a function of n (for 0 ≤ n ≤ |w|) is that of a regular trapezoid (or possibly an isosceles triangle); that is, C w (n) increases by 1 with each n on so...
